My Purpose Path

About my personal journey

My name is Wendy May. I am traveling on a purpose path, and serve as a purpose path-light for others. But it hasn’t always been that way.

Born in the US as the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, I had immense privilege. I also grew up under a lot of pressure to perform in many ways. As a result, I became a pathological over-giver and achievement addict for the first thirty-plus years of my life.

At 35, I had filled in most of mainstream society’s success template: degrees from prestigious universities, a list of impressive clients and fancy job titles, a fat salary and a gorgeous condo in San Francisco.

My career traversed the worlds of public relations, sales, marketing, leadership training, executive development and organizational consulting. I excelled at climbing the ladder in corporate life.

But it was a “fake plant kind of life.” I had collected all the shiny objects, but I felt dead inside. I was burned out, unhappy and lonely.

A surprise wake-up call

I met my first mystical experience in Bali in 2013. It’s hard to say exactly what it was. Some have called it a moment of spontaneous awakening. Whatever it was, it changed my world radically.

There was a before and an after – as clear as night and day.

Opting out of the program

I was near the top of the mountain I’d been climbing my entire life. And I quit with the summit in my sights. I opted out to start over. I had no idea what I was going to do next, or how I was going to make money.

Since leaving that safe and known path, I have done freelance executive coaching, founded an online eco-brand, hosted transformational women’s retreats, and published my book, Regenerative Purpose.

The golden thread, weaving

I have always been fascinated with the inner workings of human beings. I am both student and lover of how humanity evolves, as consciousness dances between individual and collective identity.

I see interdependence as a built-in feature of reality — one that is obvious when we live in alignment with spiritual truths, while staying embodied and in contact with physical reality. This integrated, practical spirituality infuses the offering that I am. It shows up in the words I craft as a writer, the space I hold as a facilitator, and the insights I offer as a guide.

“There is no separation between tending to our own healing, and contributing to the evolution of humanity.

the truth is that we are both sovereign and interdependent beings.”

— Wendy May

I radiate from my loving presence and visionary voice.

I heal myself to contribute to humanity’s upleveling.

I lead courageous curiosity in inner and outer inquiry.

I trust that I find myself where I am supposed to be.

I facilitate healing and transformative intimate spaces.

I know I am doing exactly what I am meant to be doing.

I play provocateur and patient guide in soul excavation.

I watch as the shape of my purpose is always shifting.

I serve as mentor and mirror to new paradigm leaders.

Writing is sacred purpose work for me. I regularly write and publish essays on integrated spirituality – to inspire awakened participation in world building. If you want to receive my free posts directly to your inbox, you can subscribe to my Substack channel here. >>>

Redefining Success

Now I measure my success by how happy and how healthy I am. The essence of this success is moving through life with engagement and ease. Feeling part of something much bigger than me. Finding myself in the right place at the right time. Connecting with ways to contribute to my desired future reality. Making exchange into a sacred act of creation, in community. These things make a meaningful life that is joyful to be living.

The process of purpose

This state comes and goes. But over the years, I noticed how I can return to this sense of aliveness and alignment, with intention. By experimenting on myself, I discovered practices and designed a process for getting back on the purpose path when I stray.

As a purpose coach, I get to play with brilliant, heart-centered change makers, fire starters, culture creators and world builders. I feel blessed to be here to support those who are committed to doing inner work for the sake of outer change.

Healing and helping

My approach to purpose work is both deeply spiritual and extremely practical. I see soul-sourced purpose as the path that merges healing ourselves and helping others — It is the grounded embodiment and enactment of the universal truth that we are all one. It integrates personal growth with the process of sharing our unique gifts to the world, in the way that each soul is designed to do. And it brings the embodied truth of interdependence into the ways we create and exchange value with each other.

The more we show up for this — our participation in what I refer to as Regenerative Purpose — the more we make big shifts in our shared reality. It is practical magic.
